Fred’s Biography

A Note from Fred Patton

I grew up in rural Shawnee County, attending Rochester and Elmont Elementary Schools, Northern Hills Junior High and Seaman High School. I earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance and Management from Washburn University and, following undergraduate school, received my Juris Doctorate from the University of Kansas.

Fred Patton and FamilyIn 1997, I married my fellow Seaman classmate, Kim Sowards. While I began law school, Kim started her teaching career at Auburn Elementary School in the Auburn-Washburn School District. Today, she serves as the librarian at North Fairview Elementary School in the Seaman School District.

Kim and I have three children. Zach is a freshman at the University of Kansas; Andrew is a junior at Seaman High School; and Emily is in 6th grade at North Fairview Elementary School. As with any young family, we stay quite active with our kids whether it is attending a band concert, a Scout meeting, a ballet performance, or a sporting event.

Fred PattonAfter law school, I spent nearly five years supervising the legal research staff at the district court in Shawnee County. In 2004, I decided to enter the private practice of law and, contrary to popular advice, opened Patton Law Office, LLC in North Topeka. I thought it was important for those living north of the river to have easy access to legal services. Patton Law Office, LLC practices in the following areas:  Banking, Business/Corporate, Construction, Estate Planning, General Civil, Probate, and Real Estate.

In 2009, I purchased Topeka Escrow Service, LLC from long-time Topeka attorney and former State Senator Elwaine Pomeroy, and we worked closely together until Mr. Pomeroy’s death in 2011. At that time, I also took over the law practice of Pomeroy & Pomeroy.

I’m a strong believer in giving back to the community in which I live and where my children are being raised.  To accomplish this, I’ve served in leadership roles with the following state and local organizations:

  • Boy Scouts of America
  • CASA of Shawnee County
  • Friends of the Topeka Zoo
  • Greater Topeka Chamber of Commerce
  • Heartland Visioning
  • Kansas Association of School Boards
  • Kansas State Department of Education
  • Leadership Greater Topeka

  • Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church
  • Safe Streets Coalition
  • Seaman Educational Advantage Foundation
  • Seaman High School Alumni Association
  • Sunrise Optimist Club
